No, this is not one of those "New Year's Resolution" post because I personally do not come up with such things and I find them pretentious. I mean come on, how many people actually do the things in that list? If you are one of the rare species then you're amazing but it's just not for me. Instead, I'm going to review the highlights of this year. Mind you, this doesn't come easy for me.
LifeTo be honest, life has not been very cooperative this year. There are more downs than ups but I am determined to read between the lines. Some of these things are probably nothing but recaps because I've mentioned them in this post before. But it goes like this:
January 25th — first month of the year and already I got a boyfriend, ha! Well, to be fair, A and I have been close since last year but it was not until January this year that my status changed. It was hilarious because this is our first relationship ever — yes, virgin babies — but we've been through a lot of things together that have taught and shaped us for the better. From this, we will continue to grow. Fingers crossed.
Surviving college — survived my thesis, survived my thesis defense, survived college and managed to graduate on time! *fist bump myself* kudos to me and my mental strength.
Two birthday cakes — I may not like birthdays but I love my cake. I got a Tous les Jours fresh cream cake from boyfriend and bought this one for myself. Frankly I love the fresh cream cake better because it was less sugary sweet.
The best friend, N — this year, I'm grateful for my best friend N (who I briefly talked about here). She also taught me several things in life, gave me some meaningful and logical advice. She's also the only one friend who really understands the meaning of loyalty and co-existence.
Comic Con 2016 — I went to this year's Comic Con with boyfriend and friends for two days straight. It was huge and way better than last year too. Briana Hildebrand, who played Teenage Warhead in Deadpool, was one of the guest stars this year. I personally wasn't extremely excited for the guest panel (since I'm not a fan of Teenage Warhead) but it was a fun experience anyway. I also bought a Bioshock Infinite's Elizabeth Comstock funko pop and a Bulbasaur stuffed toy as souvenirs. I hope one day I can go to the real Comic Con in San Diego.
I never really talked about my health on the blog because I feel like it's such a personal thing I don't want to discuss. This year, I had around 2-3 months worrying about what caused my lymph nodes to swell. A swollen lymph node may not be as terrifying to some but I had like... five. Five freaking swollen lymph nodes — three on the right side of my neck, two on the left. I had to go back and forth to my GP because he told me to undergo several blood tests. Fortunately, there was nothing serious — the tests for tuberculosis and toxoplasmosis came out negative. In the end, my GP concluded that it's probably a viral infection because I have a weak immune system. The test also revealed my vitamin D efficiency because I'm the kind of person who doesn't get sun exposure, at all. If you remember, I am terrified by sunlight due to it being one of the many triggers to my eczema flare-up. I also sneeze whenever I'm exposed to too much sunlight, I'm not joking.
Luckily, the lymph nodes are no longer troubling me. They can still swell from time to time if my immune system is fighting against an illness — it's normal and can happen to anyone so don't worry 'bout that. All in all, I just have to take vitamin D supplement to maintain my immune system.
This year, I have done a few changes on my blog. I purchased a new domain, re-boxed my blog and changed my perspective on how I write my blog or how I want my blog to be perceived. I even added some regular series, called Columns, to make my blog looks more organized and scheduled. As I'm putting more effort into blogging and my blog, I also came across new cool blogs that have inspired me so much that I look up to whenever I'm in a rut.
Honorary mention goes to:
- Hannie of Missing Wanderer
- Rae of Love From Berlin
- Adele of Naemora
- Tannya of Tanaditya
- Tienne of Foregathers
And of course, I'm also highly grateful to those who have made time reading and commenting on my post.
One, I'm a fan of DC Comics and superheroes. In fact, I like DC more than Marvel — yes, very controversial, huh...but please, no dissing because the whole DC vs Marvel thing is stupid and I'd rather not butcher you. Two, DC series are the only tv series I really keep up with. This year, it's all about The Flash Season 3, Arrow Season 5, Supergirl Season 2 and Legends of Tomorrow Season 2! Since I don't want to spoil anything, I'm not going to be very detailed about it. Just a catch, The Flash Season 3 is probably the winner out of them all.
(I also watched Stranger Things as a break from all the DC madness. Can't wait for season two!)
If you watch them too, do tell me about it so we can flail about them together!
I may not watch as many films in cinemas as last year but I've watched quite a lot, if I may say so myself. I think the reason why I don't really go to cinemas as often as last year is because I'm getting more selective than before. I mean, I always have been selective because I don't want to pay for cliche films that I can watch via download just fine but this year, I'm even more picky and selective. Still, here are some films that I watched and did not regret:
- Fantastic Beast & Where To Find Them
- All Marvel films except Dr. Strange
- Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
- Now You See Me 2
- Star Trek Beyond
- others that I cannot remember at the moment...
- Discovered Oh Wonder, Florrie and other cool indie musicians and songs such as Passion Pit's 1985 and Take A Walk, Richard Orofino's I Heard You Were Looking Like The Moon.
- Decluttered some of my beauty products that I hate by giving them away to a friend.
- Bought and read some cool books by Will Darbyshire, Estee Lalonde and David Mitchell.
I'm not gonna lie, this year has been pretty shitty. It's difficult for me to write this post because I swear I had to dig deep for the good things that have happened so as to not be completely negative about 2016. Still, like I said a million times already, there have been more downs than ups. Nevertheless, the fact that we're two days away from 2017 made me realize that I have survived the year and I will have to do it all over again next year. I would also like to thank those who have read and commented on my post — it means a lot to someone who began blogging with the thought that she's too boring to amuse anyone.
I may not have any NYE resolution prepared but if I did, one of them will definitely be to write better blog post in the future. Last but not least, how many of you realized that the title of this post is a reference to Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited film? *wink*
What were this year's highlights for you?
